Lamisil Nail Fungus Medication
Terbinafine Anti Fungal Treatment
Lamisil, often misspelled as Lamasil, is a very powerful antifungal drug often prescribed as terbinafine hydrochloride and either as a pill or a cream.
Lamisil must be administered under the strict supervision of a doctor - it is not a fungus treatment for everyone. The general health of a sufferer from nail fungus must be good as treatment can often last for several months until the infection is completley gone. The side effects of Lamisil can be far worse than the original fungal condition.
Lamisil is an FDA approved anti fungus medication usually prescribed to patients who have a severe nail fungus condition - it is unlikley to be prescribed to anyone who has a mild or moderate condition.
It is estimated that over seventeen million patients have been treated since 1996 primarily in the US. The makers of Lamisil are very commercially aware and have spent millions on advertsing in the media. Lamisil can be a costly solution.
How Does Lamisil Work
The medication, when taken by mouth, enters the bloodstream and tackles the source of the infection deep under the bed of the nail.
Who Should Not Take Lamisil
Lamisil is not recommended for anyone who suffers from any allergic reaction who has had a negative reaction from taking it in the past. If you have a weak or weakened immune system you should not take Lamisil.
Another patient group who would be best advised not to take are women who are pregnant or nursing - or plan to be pregnant during the treatment, although there is no conclusive proof that Lamisil could effect an infants health it is better to err on the side of caution.
Do not take Lamisil if you are on any other medication.
Side Effects Of Lamisil
Lamisil can cause both mild side effects and some very serious. Mild side effects can range from headaches, diarrhea, upset stomach and skin rashes.
The serious side effects that have been well documented are problems with vision, in particular the retina, very painful skin rashes and worse of all liver damage. Although the serious side effects are relatively uncommon it is advised to stop treatment at once if you experience any side effect at all and seek medical attention.
A patient should not under any circumstances take more than the recommended dosage.
Does Lamisil Work
Lamisil is a highly effective fungal medication but the potential risk to health is far greater than the cure it provides.
